호모 사피엔스는 일찌감치 지능을 외주하기 시작했다. 네안데르탈인보다 작은 두뇌를 지녔지만 그들보다 훨씬 거대한 집단을 형성하고 서로 도우며 살아남았다. 이제 우리는 인공 지능 기술을 개발해 더욱 대대적인 지능의 외주화를 도모하고 있다. 경쟁과 배제가 아니라 협력과 공존을 추구해야 한다. 인공 지능을 공생 지능으로 이끌어야 한다.

Homo sapiens began to outsource intelligence early on. Despite having smaller brains than Neanderthals, they survived by forming much larger groups and relying on mutual aid. Now, we are driving an even more massive outsourcing of intelligence through AI development. We must pursue cooperation and coexistence, rather than competition and exclusion. We must channel ‘artificial’ intelligence into ‘symbiotic’ intelligence.

활 시위를 떠난 화살처럼 AI는 빠르면서도 강력하게 우리 사회 전반을 바꾸는 중이다. 매우 희망적이며 긍정적인 변화의 이면에는 다양한 위험이 병존하고 있다. 장차 새롭게 형성될 생태계 전반에 대해 국민이 느끼는 불안과 우려를 불식하는 것은 시작부터 풀어야 할 중요한 과제이다. 보다 안전하고 다음 세대까지 지속가능한 AI 생태계를 만들어가기 위해서 우리에게는 앞선 준비가 필요하다. AI 전환시대, 국민과 기업 모두가 안전하게 히말라야 정상에 도달하도록 돕는, 국가 AI 안전 생태계 속의 세르파 역할을 살펴본다.

Like an arrow released from a bowstring, AI is rapidly and powerfully transforming every aspect of our society. While these changes bring great hope and promise, they also come with a range of risks that coexist alongside the benefits. Addressing the public’s anxiety and concerns about the emerging AI ecosystem is therefore one of the most important challenges we must tackle from the very beginning. To build an AI ecosystem that is both safe and sustainable for future generations, we must prepare in advance. In the age of AI transformation, we must consider the role of a “Sherpa” within the national AI safety ecosystem, guiding both citizens and businesses so that they can safely reach the summit of the Himalayas.
